Where are we? When are we? Is this real?
What is real?
A Wapping Great Pandemic Memoir
It’s March 2020. We’ve just been told we’re only allowed out of the house once per day for exercise. I begin taking photos on my daily walks. I often walk past Pelican Stairs in Wapping, London and take photos of the shore of the Thames. I do this daily until September, when I pack up and move to Edinburgh. Eventually I feed all these photos into a computer program and ask it to make new images based on the existing ones. These new images are unsettling: lifelike, without being real. I’ve paired them with real diary entries from the same time period. Reading through these pages takes you on the same journey I experienced through the spring and summer of 2020.
